Cleaning the Oven and Griller
Unless you have negotiated cleaning the oven and griller as part of the regular routine with your professional cleaner, it’s a job you’ll have to tackle yourself.
|
Cleaning the oven need not be a major chore. These steps will make it
quick and easy, so you have more time doing the things you really enjoy!
Step 1: Clean the oven regularly
The first trick is to wipe the oven out after every use while it’s still warm, and to clean it every couple of uses.
That way, it never gets really dirty, and the grease won’t be baked on hard.

Step 2: Assemble Your Tools
Don’t use abrasives and scourers as they will scratch the enamel. Use two sponges or soft rags, a nylon-bristled brush for any scrubbing, and paper towel for wiping.
If the oven is very dirty, use a proprietary oven cleaner and follow its instructions. Otherwise use vinegar and bicarb.
Step 3: Disassemble the Oven
Remove the oven racks, rack supports and any other parts that come out easily.
Dampen one sponge with vinegar and wipe over the pieces, then dip the other sponge (dampened with water) into your container of bicarb.
Spread the bicarb over the oven parts to make a fizzy paste, scrub with the sponge or nylon brush and leave while you wipe out the oven.
Step 4: Sponge the Oven
Clean the oven in sections. Spread bicarb over the surfaces. Then take the vinegar sponge and press it over the bicarb and scrub the grease and stains with the sponge or brush.
Rinse with warm water and dry with paper towel.
Step 5: Wash the Racks
Wash the oven racks and other removable parts in hot soapy water, rinse and leave to dry.
Cleaning the Griller
The griller can be cleaned in the same way as the oven. If the stains are hard to remove, leave the bicarb and vinegar on for a while before scrubbing with the nylon brush.
Don’t Forget the Rangehood
Take out the stainless steel filters and scrub with bicarb and vinegar, before washing in hot soapy water.
Rinse and leave to air dry before replacing.
Wipe over the outside of the rangehood with a sponge dampened with soapy water, rinse with a clean damp sponge.
