Cleaning Your Computer
Computers are one of the most-used items in the home and office, so it's no wonder they get dirty so quickly. Here's how to decontaminate your desktop.
Turn off the power
Shut down and unplug your computer before you start cleaning. Remove any peripherals like the keyboard, mouse, monitor and speakers.
Cleaning your keyboard
Turn your keyboard upside down and tap the underside to knock out any dust or bits of gunk from between the keys.
Use a damp cloth or cotton buds to clean the surface of the keys. A multipurpose cleaning spray will help with stubborn marks, but be sure to spray onto the cloth, not directly on the keyboard.

Cleaning your mouse
The undersides and buttons of computer mice have a habit of collecting gunk over time, so it's important to clean them regularly.
If you're using an optical mouse, simply wipe it with a damp cloth, taking special care to make sure the infrared sensor is clean.
If you have an old-fashioned trackball mouse, you'll need to take the ball out and wipe it, then use a toothpick or paperclip to scrape any gunk off the rollers inside the mouse.
Cleaning your screen
If your screen isn't too dirty, a clean, non-abrasive cloth lightly dampened with plain water should be enough to remove the dirt.
Particularly filthy screens will benefit from a specialised monitor cleaning solution. These are available from any good electronics store.
Always check the manufacturer's directions before cleaning your computer screen.
Cleaning inside your computer
Dust can accumulate inside your PC, so it's a good idea to clean it out once in a while. This is a highly delicate procedure, so only attempt it if you know what you are doing!
Use a can of compressed air or a miniature vacuum to clean out the dust, paying special attention to the fan, vents and motherboard.
Never use liquids to clean inside your computer.
