Eco-friendly cork flooring

With green issues to the fore amid the concern about climate change, many householders are looking for floor coverings with style that are sustainably made and environmentally friendly.

Even more so than linoleum cork flooring is completely natural and sustainable and can be recycled at the end of its life.

It is made from the bark of the cork oak tree, which is peeled off in sheets from the living tree. Cork trees can live and produce bark for hundreds of years.

A cork floor for every room

Cork has a natural warm, woody colour and effect, but is also available in strong bright colours which can be used to create contrasts, highlights or decorative patterns.

Cork floor tiles can be used anywhere you would use vinyl or linoleum, and once sealed, can handle wet conditions just as well as the other resilient finishes, stone or tile.

Soft and cushioned underfoot, they can be used also in place of carpet in family rooms, bedrooms or studies.

Cork floors are usually finished with a polyurethane sealer to ensure they are easy to clean and maintain and will look smart and wear well for years.

 Colourful cork floors

DIY Cork floor or get a contractor?

It's relatively simple to lay a cork tile floor, if you start with a perfectly level underfloor and make sure you have all the equipment you need before you start.

For best results in an older place where the floor might need levelling, when using cork sheeting or in tricky areas, talk to a flooring contractor.
