Plastering Checklist
Our plastering checklist will be handy whether you’re a DIY plasterer or using a professional plasterer to do the work for you.
Engaging a professional plasterer
3 weeks before
- Identify and plan your plastering project
- Visit Compare Quotes for costs of professional plasterers
- Select and book your plasterer
The day before
- Remove all furniture from the room or work area
- Undo and remove as many fittings as possible from the room or work area
- Carefully cover any remaining furniture or fittings
- Use a good dust cover to fully protect all carpet
On the day
- Be on time to meet your plasterer
- Put on the kettle and leave your plasterer to do the work
DIY plastering checklist
3 weeks before
- Read plastering manuals and book a course to learn plastering skills
- Make a detailed plan for your plastering project
- Buy professional plastering trade tools
- Select and purchase the right plaster mix and application technique for your project
- Review the mix components and their recommended ratios
- Practice plastering with your tools and materials
The day before
- Remove all furniture from the room or work area
- Undo and remove as many fittings as possible from the room or work area
- Carefully cover any remaining furniture or fittings
- Use a good dust cover to fully protect all carpet
- Assemble your tools.
- Prepare the surface for plastering (this will vary depending on your specific plastering job)
On the day
- Inspect your tools to ensure they are clean
- Thoroughly clean any old plaster as residue can damage surface
- Mix your plaster according to recommended ratios
- Apply your plaster, getting the surface as smooth as possible
- Allow plaster to dry
- With application complete, make any final touches
- Check you have an even application to prepare for sanding
